Holiday time with the Crowley's and the Phi's

Sunday was a long day for Fae, she had two parties to go to. First we went to the Crowley's for an early dinner and gift exchange. I think Fae had the most gifts!

Later on in the evening we were off to the Phi family gathering. Fae met lots of cousins!

Pictured here are (left to right): Tina introducing Fae to her cousin Kevin (1 1/2 yrs); Fae and Julie (Fae's grandmother); Julie and Ed in front of their tree; and Fae with Tina's aunt (Fae had a great time talking to her!)

Who's that baby in the mirror?

This photo was taken from behind Fae, she's on her tummy, and looking at a turtle mirror.

Jackeline's off today ...

We gave Jackeline the day off (as well as Monday...) so Yoel had a go as fulltime guardian to Fae. (Tina had to work.) Check him out in "Daddy Daycare"!

She weighs in at

10lbs 5 oz and measured 22" @ 9 weeks and 1 day.
Doing some quick math, that's about 28 ounces in 4 weeks or 7 ounces per week!

(She had an appointment with the Pediatrician today -- 4 shots. Mommy saw the needles and they were not small... ouch! Poor baby....)

PHPA - Holiday Party

This was the only photo we took at the PHPA Holiday party. Fae was the youngest child there and she wasn't having that good of a time. It was nice to meet some of the other parents though.

Chef Chu's (first dinner out)

Tonight was Fae's first outing to a restaurant (8 weeks 5 days). We went to Chef Chu's in Mtn View for Tina's birthday with Fae's maternal grandparents and her two of her four uncles (Tina's brothers). Fae was sleeping when we got to the restaurant but then woke up and pretty much cried for 30 minutes. She eventually went to sleep again but we felt bad for the other diners.

Fae's future in San Francisco on the chopping block ...

... possibly.

Close small schools and lose millions?

Due to budget cuts, the City of San Francisco intends to close several public schools. One of the schools on the chopping block is Daniel Webster Elementary which is just a few steps from our home. The plan is to combine the elementary students currently attending Daniel Webster with "nearby" Starr King Elementary. This will result in a higher student to teacher ratio .. I guess we can deal with that.

The larger issue for us is that San Francisco intends to convert Daniel Webster into a small high school for "at-risk" students ... I'm sure they've got to have some place for such a program, but across the street from our home ... hmm, not good.

Fae and Mommy

(She just farted.)

First day facing forward in Baby Bjorn!

The title says it all. Fae had a blast facing foward in the Baby Bjorn carrier today. We went to the PHPA (Potrero Hill Parents Association) Holiday Party and to Stonestown Galleria Mall in San Francisco to do some shopping.

Canon PowerShot S300 (Digital Elph)

We discover the limitation of our already limited digital camera : you can't rotate the avi movies once they've been shot... maybe there is software that'll do this? All photos here were taken with this camera, so I guess we can't really complain.

Daddy's Lap

Movie: Hiccups and Classical Music

Movie: Are you still hungry?

We didn't notice this until after we shot the movie, but our other baby, Kenya the African Grey Parrot, was being quite noisy in the background. Listen for the R2D2-ish voice ...

Movie: Baby talk

Daddy and Kenya are talking in the background ...

Fae and Amelia

Here's Fae and her friend Amelia, Lydia and Ben's daughter. Amelia is only 1 week older than Fae. They're going to see a lot of each other.

Another First: Computers/Internet/Email

Email didn't come soon enough ... and then she'll be asking us to borrow those car keys ...

We live in a very technology-centric area in the age of information. Not only does Fae have her own blog, but so does her friend, Lily Sofia (our next door neighbors' daughter.) Fae and Lily share a nanny, Jackeline, who comes every day to care for these two friends while their Mommy and Daddy go to work.

Expressions from the Sling

First Thanksgiving

We hosted Thanksgiving dinner for the second year in a row at our home in San Francisco; a first for Fae. As you can see, she is not much larger than the turkey drumstick (from a 15.5 pound turkey!)

*Fae weighed in at 8 lbs, 9 oz at 5 weeks old on Monday, November 21.*

First Bath

On Tuesday, November 1st, Fae's little umbilical cord remnant thingie fell out ... almost exactly 2 weeks after her birth. We were a little worried after seeing a tiny bit of greenish pus under it and even called Dr. Langston (her Pediatrician) the day before to see if there was anything we could do. Luckily, everything was fine.

A few days following the falling out of her umbilical cord, we decided to give her a first bath. We discover that Fae LOVES her baths!

Baby Naming at Beth Sholom

Fae gets her Hebrew name, Arela, at Beth Sholom (San Francisco) in a Baby Naming Ceremony on Saturday, October 29. Grandparents from both sides were present. Abba and Ema, paternal grandparents, flew in for a long weekend from New Jersey.

Expressions

We discovered early on that Fae is full of wonderful expressions -- in her sleep.
